1. Take a shower before and after using the pool This way you can protect the intimate area from infections that can be caused by microorganisms in the water. 2. Change the wet swimsuit immediately Vaginal yeast infections can occur if moisture is trapped around the vulva. Combined with the heat that develops in the area during the summer months, the problem intensifies. As soon as you get out of the sea, change your wet bathing suit into a dry one. 3. Use two different towels on the beach: one for drying, one for the lounger You don’t need to risk transferring bacteria from the lounger to your intimate area that will lead to the development of infections. 4. No sharing of towels! Just like the toothbrush. Towels are so personal that sharing them is not recommended for maximum hygiene. 5. Frequent washing of towels is a must. Microbes that accumulate on their surface can be transferred to the intimate area when wiping or after contact with the fabric of the lounger. Therefore, it is best to have at least 2 towels so that you can wash them often. It is recommended to prefer high temperatures, which “kill” the microbes, and then they must be ironed, which is a second type of heat treatment. 6. Avoid standing directly on the sand or sunbed, because they are a “hideout” for germs that make the intimate area vulnerable to infection. 7. Choose breathable fabrics Cotton and linen for example allow the skin to breathe and will protect more effectively than synthetic fabrics that trap moisture. 8. Avoid super tight pants or shorts Synthetic fabric clothes create a super “friendly” wet environment for all kinds of germs, bacteria, etc. Opting for looser clothing is something the intimate area will ‘appreciate’. 9. On menstrual days, it is best to change tampons, pads or empty the menstrual cup quite often Every 3-4 hours. This way you can keep the area dry and protected. It is also important to avoid scented wipes or tampons. 10. Do not neglect daily cleaning with specialized products Twice a day, clean your intimate area with specially formulated products for the intimate area. Whether you prefer foam or liquid, or even daily wipes, invest in one (or more) that keep vaginal pH within normal ranges. With the right hygiene rules for the intimate area, you can enjoy summer with freshness, comfort and protection.
