Although it is a way to deliver a new kind of sensation, anal sex has many risks that sexual partners should be aware of. The skin around the anus and the rectal mucosa are extremely rich in nerve endings, which makes anal sex a good way to pleasure women. Pleasure in men comes from the tight musculature of the anal sphincter, which causes stronger mechanical friction and stronger sensations. Pleasure in homosexual men derives from stimulation of the prostate gland during intercourse. Unlike the vagina, the anus does not contain glands that produce a natural lubricant and assist in the course of sexual intercourse. For this reason, it is necessary to use lubricants, preferably water-based. Lack of lubrication can lead to severe pain and the formation of anal fissures (tears in the skin around the anus and rectal mucosa). In order not to create negative and painful sensations, it is recommended that the transition to anal sex be smooth and careful. Using a condom during anal sex is mandatory! According to the World Health Organization (WHO), anal sex is the riskiest of the other types of sexual contact and has the highest risk of spreading sexually transmitted infections. Among the most common sexually transmitted diseases that can develop are gonorrhea, chlamydial infection, AIDS, syphilis, human papilloma virus (HPV), and more. The increased risk of sexually transmitted diseases during anal sex is associated with the reduced thickness of the rectal mucosa and the lack of lubrication, which creates conditions for mucosal rupture and penetration of the pathogen into the bloodstream. For heterosexual couples, it is extremely important to change condoms when switching from vaginal to anal sex and vice versa. The bacterial flora in the large intestine leads to the development of a pathological process in the vagina – vaginitis. Inflammation of the rectum is referred to by the term proctitis. Not using a condom leads to inflammation of the skin of the penis (balanitis) and to the penetration of bacteria into the male urethra and the development of urethritis. The condition is accompanied by pain and burning during urination, itching and discharge from the penis. Anal sex does not cause hemorrhoids, but it can lead to their complications. Using lubricants can reduce the risk of tears. Although it brings pleasant experiences, anal sex must be practiced responsibly and carefully, as it is the riskiest among the other types of sexual contact and carries the risk of various inflammatory diseases – vaginitis, proctitis, balanitis.
