Oral sex is one of the main causes of the emergence of dangerous strains of the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae – the causative agent of gonorrhea. The non-use of condoms during this type of sexual contact is the basis of its mass spread. With each successive transmission of the pathogen, the various bacterial strains become more and more resistant to antibiotic preparations, and now there are cases of gonorrhea all over the world that do not respond to treatment – they have been documented in Japan, France and Spain. The gonorrhea bacterium can infect the genitals, the rectum, and the throat, with the latter being the biggest problem for doctors. When treating the initial symptoms – red throat, pain, polyps and other classic signs of an upper respiratory tract infection, antibiotics are massively prescribed that are not strong enough. This results in multiple strains of Neisseria being exposed to an inappropriate antimicrobial to which they begin to develop resistance. With the subsequent administration of the correct antibiotic, it already turns out to be insufficiently strong and the infection continues to develop. NEWS_MORE_BOX Statistics available for the UK show that 77.9% of men and 76.8% of women on the island engage in oral sex at least once a year. 78 million new cases of the disease leading to infertility are registered worldwide every year. Against the most common strain of gonorrhea, spread globally, 97% of the antibiotic ciprofloxacin is ineffective, and even the heavy artillery in antibiotic treatments – the bactericide ceftriaxone is already ineffective in 66% of cases. The World Health Organization advises the mandatory use of protective equipment during sex. If there is a desire to practice oral sex, regular examination for sexually transmitted infectious diseases is advised, at least every 3-5 months, even when a person has only one sexual partner and even more often if there are more than one. Prevention of disease is easier, cheaper and more reasonable than its treatment.
