When a woman is on top during sex, it is the most dangerous position for a man, according to the data of a new study. Risky posture accounts for half of penile fractures that occur during intercourse, researchers report. By comparison, the position in which the woman is on all fours is “responsible” for 29% of these injuries, and the percentage in the missionary position is 21. According to the scientists, the man does not have the opportunity to quickly stop the painful movements when the entire weight of the woman’s body is on the erect penis. If he has control in a potentially risky situation, he could reduce the injury by freeing himself from the painful movements. Of all 44 cases of suspected penile fracture investigated at three different hospitals in Campinas, Brazil, over a 13-year period, 42 were confirmed. They are examined in detail in order to establish the root cause. After the analysis, it turns out that in 28 of the men the trauma occurred during heterosexual intercourse. Six of the victims received the fracture during “manipulation of the penis”. In four cases, it was the result of homosexual intercourse, and for the remaining four it is not clear how they received the trauma. NEWS_MORE_BOX Half of victims report hearing a snapping sound at first injury. It is followed by swelling and pain. Two of them developed erectile dysfunction after the trauma. The scientists stress that penile fractures are rare and the data do not mean the pose should be ruled out entirely. They also point out that it is very important to seek a doctor’s opinion in the event that pain is felt in the penile area. The data are published in Advances in Urology.
