“Not tonight, I have a headache” – this sounds like one of the most hated sentences of men and probably the most common excuse for women to refuse sex. It is known that women need a special setting to energize themselves for bed passions. On the other hand, it seems as if men are always ready for sex. A new study by Canadian scientists, cited by the journal Neuroscience, reinforces this notion. Researchers from the universities “McGill” and “Concordia” in North America have found that pain does not affect the libido of the stronger sex at all. They conducted an experiment in which it was proven that pain and inflammation significantly reduced sexual desire in females, while in males these factors did not affect their libido. The leader of the research team, Dr. Melissa Farmer, points out that in people with chronic pain, sexual problems are very common. New findings, however, show that repressed sexual desire is not sociocultural, but purely evolutionary in nature. They will help to study the perception of pain in both sexes and to unravel the different factors that affect our intimate life. The research is also useful for the development of personalized medicine and its concepts in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases that disturb the stability not only of the body, but also of the emotional state of the person.
