They produced a physician’s guide to prostate cancer treatment

Specialists have prepared a national document on the rules of medical practice in prostate cancer – the most common and malignant type of cancer in men. The manual is to be discussed and adopted during the third annual conference MORE 2012. An expert board of 28 qualified specialists from oncology centers in the country has been working on the preparation of the national consensus for a year. Such a board is meeting for the first time in the history of Bulgarian oncology medicine, covering all specialties and branch medical organizations dealing with prostate cancer – urologists, pathologists, geneticists, radiologists, nuclear medicine doctors, radiation and chemotherapists, etc. The conference also includes the presentation of the first guide of its kind for the diagnosis and treatment of neuroendocrine tumors, developed in Bulgarian. It is the work of a national expert board of 14 specialists and includes guidelines and recommendations for medical practice in a rare and specific category of malignant diseases that are often missed due to lack of qualifications or special medical technologies. The guidance is directly related to the work of the newly established two national specialized centers for neuroendocrine tumors, one of which is in the UMBAL “St. Marina” in Varna. The forum takes place from October 11 to 13 at the Admiral Hotel, Golden Sands. The event is part of the national program MORE – Multidisciplinary oncology talks and extracts. It is organized on the initiative of the Medical University – Varna, the Bulgarian Oncology Society and the University Hospital “St. Marina” – Varna, which organize annual national conferences dedicated to problems of the most common malignant tumors, their diagnosis and treatment in Bulgaria. The names of the most authoritative Bulgarian oncologists appear in the expert board. The chairman of the organizing committee of MORE 2012 is Assoc. Dr. Dimitar Kalev, head of the Medical Oncology Clinic at UMBAL “St. Marina” – Varna. Committee also includes Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov, rector of MU – Varna; Prof. Dr. Anelia Klisarova, UMBAL “St. Marina” – Varna; Assoc. Dr. Asen Dudov – Chairman of the Bulgarian Oncology Society. The previous two conferences were devoted to the problems of lung cancer and colorectal cancer, and published the first ever national guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of these most common malignancies.
