Virginity in girls is a very delicate subject. In addition to moral and emotional aspects, it is also associated with maturation. During the first intercourse, a slight feeling of pain and bleeding is characteristic, the reason is the rupture of the hymen, which is located at the entrance to the vagina, but does not close it completely. Rupture of the hymen is called defloration. The word itself comes from the Latin de – separation, removal and flos, floris – color, youth, virginity. The hymen can be torn not only during intercourse, but also during injury and profuse bleeding. Sometimes the tearing and removal of the hymen is medically necessary. The reason is the presence of the large density of the membrane, which prevents the passage of menstrual blood and causes the vagina to fill with blood, the uterus and possibly the fallopian tubes. Of course, these are exceptional cases. The condition is called haematocolpos. NEWS_MORE_BOX The thickness and course of the hymen tear are strictly individual for each girl. In some, the membrane deflorates very easily, and sometimes bleeding is not even noticed, but in others, this may occur at birth. There are cases where defloration is accompanied by bleeding, which may last 2-3 days after the first intercourse. In this case, it is recommended to share the experience with a close adult and consult with an obstetrician-gynecologist. In many cases, in the absence of intimacy for a long time after the first intercourse, during coitus – sexual intercourse – pain and discomfort can again be experienced by the girl. Sometimes this is due to partial healing of the hymen. There are cases in which during the first intercourse the hymen does not tear completely, but partially, which is quite enough for the normal passage of the male penis. Complete rupture of the hymen then occurs after the first birth. Recently, the application of procedures for the reconstruction of the hymen, hymenoplasty, has become popular. Young women’s motivations for taking such actions are due to the desire to show their future man or lover how dear they are. Of course, many people are of the opinion that this is a purely emotional and subconscious delusion, since sexual intercourse has long taken place, and only the restoration of the hymen cannot restore virginity.
