Men have sex with an average of 9 women in their lifetime

Men have twice as many sexual partners as women in their lives, according to data from a British study involving 14,000 people. It turns out that the representatives of the stronger sex have intimate contact with an average of 9.3 different women, and 25% of them boast of more than 10 conquests. Unlike men, women are significantly more modest – they have an average of 4.7 sexual partners in their lifetime. 1/4 say they are devoted to only one man. Monogamy is even more common in later life, with 40% of women between the ages of 55 and 69 saying they have only had one sexual partner in their lifetime. Compared to men, women are also more certain about the number of their sexual partners, the scientists found. More women than men report having an intimate relationship with only one partner of the opposite sex in their lifetime – 24% of women compared to 17% of men. On the other hand, more men than women report having had sexual relations with more than 10 partners of the opposite sex – 27% of men and 13% of women. The average age for first sexual contact is 17 years. Although most said they used contraception, 1/5 of young women took an emergency contraceptive pill after sex. In the past year, 17% of those aged 16-34 have been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection. The data also shows that 15% of young women have had between 2-4 different sexual partners in the past year. The results were published by the Information Center of the British Health Service NHS.
