Alcohol predisposes to unsafe sex, according to a new study published in the journal Addiction. It examines data from 12 previous studies analyzing the cause-and-effect relationship between alcohol and the lack of protection during sexual contact. The research team compared the results of each study and found that alcohol consumption affects risky behavior and reckless decision making. The influence of alcohol increases with the amount of alcohol consumed, experts confirm. The study participants were divided into two groups. The first was offered alcohol, the second only water. After that, they are asked a series of questions directed at the desire for safe sex. The group that consumed alcohol answered evasively, with “maybe”, “why not”, “yes”. The second group are categorical in their refusal in the absence of protective means. NEWS_MORE_BOX The results do not make clear whether the desire for unsafe sex is caused by the effects of alcohol or is due to personal and individual qualities, but in both cases it is necessary to pay attention and prevent casual sex without protection. The research team hopes the study will help to consider new proposals to curb risky sexual behaviour, especially among young people.
