More and more young people are waiting longer before starting their sex lives, a new study suggests. The news also concerns parents who are concerned about the moment when their children will start having sex. Premature sexual life is considered when young people begin to communicate sexually before they have reached not only their physical, but also their spiritual maturity. That’s the age before 18. A wide-ranging new study has found that people between the ages of 15 and 24 are waiting longer before taking the big step towards first sex than generations of a few years ago. NEWS_MORE_BOX The research team surveyed more than 13,500 people in this age range. 25% of participants stated that they had not yet had intercourse or other sexual acts. This is 3% more people compared to data from 2002, the researchers found. 57% had not yet had intercourse but had oral sex. Scientists do not have a ready and precise hypothesis as to what is the reason for the decline in the early initiation of sexual life, but they suggest that one of the reasons is the fear of early pregnancy and more and more accessible information about sexually transmitted diseases. Some people are of the opinion that the later they start having sex, the more they can truly enjoy the experience and be mature enough to accept consequences, such as a possible unwanted pregnancy. Occurring in the teenage years, it carries a considerable probability of harming the fetus or the young mother. In our country, however, the data point to the opposite trend – Bulgarian youths start having sex earlier and earlier. According to the latest data, 40 out of 1000 girls give birth in their teens.
