Condoms pose a risk if you are lactose intolerant

Hey there! So, you know how people who can’t handle dairy tend to steer clear of milk, cheese, and ice cream? Well, turns out, being lactose intolerant might affect more than just your diet—it could even impact your sex life. Crazy, right?

According to Maggie Ney from the Women’s Clinic at the Akasha Center in Santa Monica, California, latex, the stuff condoms are made of, often contains a milk protein called casein. Now, casein isn’t harmful unless you have a milk allergy. But here’s the kicker: many folks don’t realize there’s dairy in condoms. And for those with lactose intolerance, this could be a problem. See, casein can get absorbed through the vaginal walls and into your bloodstream.

Now, Sherry Ross, a gynecologist from California, says there’s no documented case of lactose intolerant people reacting to latex. More likely, any reaction would be to the latex itself. Latex allergies can mimic yeast infections, causing swelling, redness, and soreness down there. Tricky thing is, it’s not always easy to figure out if it’s the casein in the latex causing the issue.

So, if you’re allergic to milk and worried about latex condoms, consider going for polyurethane ones instead. And if you notice any weird reactions after using condoms, definitely chat with your doctor to get to the bottom of it. Your health and comfort are top priority!
