The eyeball licking fetish that is extremely popular in Japan can cause serious health problems, warns American Academy of Ophthalmology spokesman Dr. Philip Rizzuto. The fetish, known as oculolynxtus, has become a way of expressing affection and inciting sexual arousal in Japan. However, doctors warn that it carries a serious risk of viral conjunctivitis, other eye infections and can even lead to blindness. Oculolynxtus is extremely popular among teenagers and is practiced by one in three students in the Land of the Rising Sun. The fetish became the cause of an epidemic of the so-called “pink eye” which is an unusual red eye condition where the color of the sclera changes. However, the syndrome is by no means the only danger in the practice of oculolynxtus. When the tongue makes contact with the eyes, they are exposed to all sorts of infections. Hair on the tongue can cause corneal wear. There is also a serious risk of virus transmission. If someone has herpes and licks their partner’s eyeball in an effort to sexually arouse them, they are putting them at serious risk of developing eye herpes, doctors warn.
