Abdominal pains of gynecological origin

Abdominal pains of gynecological origin (part 2)

Hey there! Ever experienced abdominal pain that feels like it’s coming from down there? Well, one reason for that could be a sudden disruption of blood supply to your lady parts. This tends to happen a lot with big ovarian tumors, cysts, or fibroid nodes on the leg.

Let’s talk about ovarian torsion and cysts. Torsion is when an organ or something twists around its own axis, cutting off its blood supply. Ovarian tumors, especially those not attached to surrounding tissue, are prone to this. It usually happens with quick movements like turning in bed or during active sports.

So, what happens when torsion kicks in? Initially, you might not feel much, but if it continues, blood flow to the organ gets restricted. This can lead to swelling, even bleeding inside the organ, making it painful and bluish. In severe cases, blood vessels can rupture, causing bleeding into the abdomen. Without treatment, the organ can even die off and become infected, spreading to nearby organs.

Symptoms vary depending on how much the organ twists and how fast it happens. With a sudden twist, you’ll feel intense lower abdominal pain, nausea, and maybe even vomiting. Lab tests might show anemia or increased white blood cells. Sometimes, the organ twists back on its own, but it’s crucial to get it checked out to prevent further incidents.

Now, onto adnexitis, an inflammation of the ovary and fallopian tube. It usually starts from the lower genital tract and moves upward. As it progresses, it can lead to abscess formation. Since the ovary and tube are close, both get affected.

In the acute phase, you’ll feel pain in the lower abdomen, and your belly might feel tense. You might also notice changes in your menstrual cycle, along with nausea and lack of appetite. Lab tests often show increased white blood cells and ESR.

The danger here is if an abscess ruptures, it can lead to peritonitis, which is serious business. If treatment doesn’t work and things get worse, surgery might be needed to remove the pus and clean up the mess.

So, if you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, don’t hesitate to seek medical help. Your body will thank you for it!
