Nearly half of Bulgarian girls aged 15 have had sex, 48.18% of children in our country between the ages of 15-16 have already had sex, according to the results of a large-scale study conducted by Gedeon Richter. It is part of the initiated campaign “Program for preserving reproductive health” of the pharmaceutical company, covering 240 schools in 13 major cities of the country. The campaign is supported by the Ministry of Health and Education and the Health Directorates of the Capital Municipality and the municipalities of the remaining 12 cities, including Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Stara Zagora, Pleven, Vratsa, Vidin, Montana, Blagoevgrad and Shumen. 14,927 students from the tenth grades of the schools filled out the survey at the end of a lesson on “Modern Contraception” delivered by the company’s pre-prepared medical specialists, together with the school principals. Almost 85% of those who completed the survey confirm the benefit of the lesson on contraception held at school. Even 13-14-year-olds have sexual contacts – 17% of those participating in the polls say that their first experience took place precisely at this age.
