Visiting art galleries, theater productions and concerts improves the physical and mental health of men, according to a study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. It is established that women benefit more from participation in artistic activities. The authors of the study believe that that doctors and politicians should more strongly promote cultural activities as an opportunity to reduce stress. The results show that the use of cultural activities for the promotion of health and health care can be justified. Scientists from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology analyzed the results of a questionnaire filled out by 50,797 adults over a period of 3 years. Participants shared their health and happiness levels, as well as what cultural and creative activities they took part in, including playing of a musical instrument, playing sports and visiting exhibitions, concerts, theater plays, cinema. The results show that women have greater health benefits from participating in creative activities, and men are happier attending cultural events. The more similar activities participants engage in, the more their physical and mental health improves.
