Absence of separated seminal fluid at the peak of sexual arousal is known to medicine as “dry orgasm”. The condition is seen in men of any age, from puberty to old age. Cases of dry orgasm are most often reported in young men and this is mainly due to the refractory period. This is a term used to refer to the loss of sensitivity to incoming excitatory impulses over a period of time. A completely normal feature of physiology, the refractory period is also observed in another aspect in men – often an erection cannot be achieved again until half an hour after ejaculation. The principle is similar to ejaculation itself – if it has been reached in the last few hours, a rest period is necessary for the neurons transmitting the action signals. Another possible reason is the frequency of reaching orgasm or ejaculation through sexual contact, masturbation or pollution – the body needs time to restore the volume of prostate secretions, sex hormones and sperm. On the other hand, there is also the phenomenon of retrograde ejaculation, which is mainly observed in men of middle age and above. In this case, the ejaculate does not exit through the urethra, but travels the other way to the bladder. This can be caused by a number of reasons, most commonly a weakened valve or a valve under too much pressure caused by excessive pressure on the penis during ejaculation. NEWS_MORE_BOX Retrograde ejaculation is not painful or dangerous, but it can lead to problems conceiving. The condition is one of the most common causes of infertility, but it is not the same as infertility and is easily treatable. The only danger of dry orgasm is rooted in psychological complications – many men are not aware of the reasons for this phenomenon, which can give rise to feelings of sexual incapacity or inadequacy. The stress of these feelings can lower the libido, cause abstinence from sexual contact and even lead to an inability to achieve an erection – entirely on a psycho-emotional basis. If it occurs more often than twice a month, a consultation with a doctor is advised.
