Hey there, did you know that folic acid isn’t just for moms-to-be? Yep, Dutch scientists found out it’s important for dads too! Turns out, taking folic acid can boost the quality and movement of sperm. That means it’s not only good for preventing birth defects like spina bifida, but it can also help with male potency.
In a study of 211 men, over half of whom had some issues with erections or fertility, researchers found that after taking folic acid for 26 weeks, sperm activity shot up by a whopping 74%! And it’s not just folic acid doing the heavy lifting. When combined with zinc, it improves semen production and testosterone levels, and even speeds up sperm swimming.
Sure, more research is needed, but these findings are promising. They could lead to new treatments for male potency issues. So, how much folic acid and zinc should you be getting? Aim for about 0.3-0.4 milligrams of folic acid daily. You can get it from foods like spinach, egg yolk, muesli, and French cheeses. As for zinc, shoot for around 15 mg a day. You’ll find it in red meats, eggs, nuts, shrimp, cereals, and yogurt.
Think about it: a little boost from these nutrients could make a big difference in your reproductive health.
