In 1/3 of cases, prostate cancer is diagnosed at an advanced stage

Hey there, folks! So, at this recent press conference about kicking off a campaign to fight prostate cancer, Assoc. Dr. Krasimir Neikov dropped some stats on us. Brace yourselves – there are 1,559 new cases of prostate cancer! Dr. Neikov, head of the Urology Clinic at the Oncology Hospital in Sofia, highlighted a worrying trend: more and more guys are getting hit with this disease.

Here’s the kicker – in a third of these cases, the cancer is already in the advanced stages, like stage three or four. But fear not! The aim of this campaign is to catch prostate cancer early, ideally in the first or second stage when it’s much more manageable.

Now, listen up, fellas! Dr. Neikov recommends every guy over 50 gets themselves checked, whether they’re feeling any symptoms or not. It’s all about catching it before it catches you off guard.

In Bulgaria, prostate cancer is no joke. It’s the third most common cancer in men, with 42 out of every 100,000 Bulgarian men affected. That’s serious business.

But hey, here’s the good news – from March 15 to May 15, there are free screenings happening across Sofia, Ruse, Svishtov, and Sliven. Top-notch urologists and oncologists will be on hand to give you the lowdown on your prostate health.

The best part? It’s just a simple blood test. No fuss, no hassle.

This initiative is part of the National Prostate Cancer Prevention Campaign, kicking off on February 23. Their motto? “Prostate cancer is curable if detected early.” It’s all about raising awareness and stressing the importance of catching it in the bud.

So, what are you waiting for? Don’t let prostate cancer sneak up on you. Get checked, stay healthy, and let’s beat this thing together!
