Half of men will forgive their partner’s infidelity as long as it’s with another woman, according to a new study published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences. Women, however, are less likely to forgive and forget such betrayal. if the partner cheats with another man, say scientists from the University of Texas at Austin. The test was conducted with 718 students who had to imagine that they had serious and long-lasting relationships. Their reactions to several different scenarios of cheating by their loved one were explored. They are explored based on basic instincts provoked by jealousy. The researchers found that 50% of men were likely to continue a relationship with a woman who flirted with another woman, and 22% said they could forgive cheating with another man. For women, the results were reversed, with 28% of female students say that they will keep the relationship if their boyfriend “hangs on” with another woman, but only 21% will keep it if the partner cheats with another man. Homosexual cheating is a relatively rare phenomenon in real life, emphasizes the author of the study, Jaime Konfer. He explains that the mechanism of jealousy in men and women is activated by different types of signs. Women are afraid of abandonment, and in men the reason is that they are more sensitive to the presence of another of their own kind and perceive him as a rival, the factor of uncertainty in possible paternity also affects. And when the partner has an affair with another woman, the male sex usually sees an opportunity to “mate” with more than one woman, the research team explains. When sharing the own experiences of the study participants, it is clear that men are more adamant and do not forgive infidelity easily, unlike women. The results also show that men are significantly more likely than women to end a relationship after their partner has had an affair.
