For several years now, the month of November has been a time for men and, in particular, for their beards and mustaches. The reason for this is that in this month special attention is paid to men’s health and specific diseases that affect the stronger sex, namely prostate cancer, testicular cancer and others. The goal is for men to go unshaven for the entire month, during which time social networks are filled with hundreds of thousands of photos of men’s beards, the purpose of which is not only to attract attention, but also to call for fundraising. We will focus on some of the specific male health problems. Prostate Cancer Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men, and according to statistics, the number of affected men is growing rapidly. This disease kills about 35 men every hour, and survivors suffer serious consequences. About 80% of all cases are in men over the age of 65. Symptoms include pain and burning during urination, frequent urination, decrease in the amount and strength of urine flow, inability to urinate, blood in the urine, and others. NEWS_MORE_BOX Funds raised during Movember will be added to global efforts to reduce the number of men dying from prostate cancer by 50 per cent by 2030. Testicular cancer Testicular cancer most commonly affects men around the age of 40 and kills 1 in 20 patients. The most distinctive symptom is a lump or swelling in the testicles. Among other complaints are a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum, a change in the size or shape of the testicles, pain in the right side of the abdomen, testicles or scrotum, etc. In addition to its commitment to halve the number of people dying from testicular cancer again by 2030, the dedicated Movember Foundation wants to reduce by 50% the number of people facing the serious side effects of treatment for this type of cancer.
