Sexual frustration is a highly negative emotional state caused by a discrepancy between the desired and actual sexual activity of the individual. It can be caused both by the low frequency of sexual contacts and by the inability to reach sexual satisfaction. In modern psychology, the condition is given considerable attention, because it provokes various types of reactions, most of which are aggressive. There are also frequent cases when frustration does not lead to any reactions – apathetic states, devoid of aggression, anxiety or hyperactivity, but also of normal motor activity. Suppression of negative emotion eventually leads to either an active outburst of aggression or to regression – emotional closure leading to severe depressions. Research from the University of Michigan indicates that the effects of sexual frustration are far from just psychological. Prof. Fletcher from the Department of Molecular Physiology at the university reveals that the stress caused by such an emotional state directly affects the individual’s health. In an innovative experiment, Prof. Fletcher and his team subjected living subjects to specific and strong sexual stimulants, but without the possibility of sexual contact. This led to visible results over time: a sharp drop in fat stores, decreased sensitivity to physiological needs such as hunger and thirst, and the accumulation of more and more stress, leading to a gradual increase in blood pressure and hypertension. Frustration also causes the less frequent additional release of necessary compounds such as endorphin and oxytocin, which increase mood, dull neurological pain and help the body in stressful situations. For a prolonged period, the condition requires consultation with a specialist to establish the root causes.
