Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection that usually occurs as a result of a bacterial infection with Chlamydia trachomatis acquired during unprotected oral, anal, or vaginal sex with a chlamydia-infected person. Chlamydia usually does not cause very distinct symptoms, so it can be difficult to recognize. When chlamydia causes symptoms, they usually don’t appear for at least several weeks after infection.
