The obstetrician-gynecologists of UMBAL-Plovdiv have diagnosed a huge tumor in a 14-year-old girl. This comes two weeks after planned admissions and operations in hospitals were allowed. Due to the epidemic of Covid-19, their implementation was limited by the Ministry of Health in the spring and autumn of 2020. The Plovdiv medical facility states that the formation weighs more than 4 kg and measures 65/50 cm. The tests carried out show that it is benign. The family decided to seek help at the medical facility because of the severe abdominal pains and heaviness the child was feeling. During the examination, the doctors found that the child’s belly was as big as that of a woman in advanced pregnancy. The scan done at the hospital shows that there is a very large tumor on one ovary in the child’s abdomen, which has pushed the rest of the organs to the side. The girl will be operated on at the Clinic for Cosmetic Surgery at the UMBAL “St. George”. Tests there revealed that the teenager had a mucinous ovarian cyst, which is a mostly benign tumor. It is known in medicine that it can reach large sizes – up to 10 kg. This type of tumor occurs most often in women between the ages of 30 and 50. They are rarely seen in girls before puberty, during pregnancy and after menopause. The only symptoms are pain in the abdomen and an increase in its size, as well as bleeding. According to AG specialists, the girl’s cyst has developed over the past 3-4 years. They point out that such cases are relatively rare, and their advice to parents is to monitor the health and complaints of their children and seek medical help if they notice a growing belly. Currently, there is a significant increase in surgical gynecological interventions at “UMBAL-Plovdiv” after the cancellation of the health minister’s order not to perform planned operations in connection with the Covid pandemic. In the hospital today, a large benign cyst was removed from the ovary of a 64-year-old woman. She was admitted with abdominal swelling and pain. The removed mass was 12 cm in length. Scheduled admissions and elective surgeries in hospitals resumed on January 16, 2021. Concerns about coronavirus infection and the ban on scheduled admissions caused many people to postpone their visits to the doctor.
