Both women and men need special care for the most delicate part of their body. The recommendations partially overlap: daily hygiene, careful washing and avoiding the use of aggressive detergents that can dry the skin and mucous membranes of the genitals are necessary. Aggressive soaps destroy the natural film that forms the mucous membrane, and thanks to it local tissues are protected from foreign microorganisms. Drying is doubly dangerous, because cracked skin provides an opportunity for disease-causing microorganisms to enter the tissue, which multiplies the risk, especially of sexually transmitted diseases. However, how do the needs for maintaining intimate hygiene differ? The first feature is obvious and comes from the differences in the anatomical structure of men and women. The male genital organ is located outside the body, unlike the female vagina, which is well “hidden” and “placed” in the perineum. Maintaining the hygiene of the male genital organ is more accessible, besides, it does not require such strict consideration of the composition of the detergent as is required for the hygiene of the vagina. Why does the vagina require washing with a special detergent such as the content of the active ingredients? It is already well known that the microflora of the vagina has a special, acidic environment, with a pH of 4.5. This acidic environment provides protection to the tissues of the genital organs against pathological microorganisms, which are most often transmitted during sexual life. The acidic content damages and destroys bacteria, viruses and other unicellular disease-causing microorganisms. Local immunity is extremely important in a woman, since pathological microorganisms that have entered the vagina very easily can spread to the higher organs – the uterus and its appendages and the adjacent tissues and organs in the small pelvis. Serious infection, frequent recurrent infections of the genital organs are the reason for the high incidence of cystitis and other inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract and excretory system in general in women. Another obvious difference… When the balance of conditionally pathogenic microorganisms that make up the vaginal flora is maintained, the secretions that are released are kept clean from the point of view of disease-causing microbes. A mandatory condition not only for a woman’s health, but also because of her differentiation, given by nature, to bring life. Maintaining a clean vaginal environment, within the limits of its natural pH and protective immunity is also a guarantee for the health of the future child. Illnesses of the child in infancy and early childhood are in fact very often due to infections transmitted during birth from the baby’s mother . An unpleasant fact. But fact. These include particularly frequent upper respiratory tract infections, skin manifestations, eye infections, labial herpes… There is also a third difference, and it is evident as a difference between the sexes, but requires a more detailed explanation regarding the need for special intimate care in the hygiene of the most delicate part of the female body… See – in the continuation.
