Hey there! Did you know that men might be less likely to use condoms if they find their partner really attractive? Yep, it’s true! Researchers found that guys tend to think that good-looking women take better care of themselves and are less likely to have STDs. And get this, when a guy sees himself as good-looking too, he’s even less likely to want to use protection.
So, why does this happen? Well, according to experts, men often want to have kids with women who they think look better. And because of this desire, they’re willing to take more risks, like not using condoms.
To understand this better, researchers from the University of Southampton and the University of Bristol in the UK surveyed 51 heterosexual men, aged 18 to 69. They showed them photos of women’s faces and asked how likely they’d be to have unprotected sex with each woman. The guys also rated the women’s attractiveness, guessed how many other men would have sex without a condom with each woman, and estimated the likelihood that the women had STDs.
The results were pretty interesting. It turns out, men are more likely to use condoms with women they don’t find as attractive. And they think these women are more likely to have STDs. Also, men tend to use protection more when they’re less satisfied sexually. Younger guys also tend to be better about using protection.
But what makes guys more likely to skip the condom when they’re flirting? Well, having more sexual partners and losing their virginity later in life are factors.
This study was published in the British Medical Journal Open, shedding some light on how attractiveness, sexual health, and condom use are all connected.
